Life Care Plan EconomistView Resources
Life care plans project future costs of medical goods and services for individuals with severe injury or illness and are prepared by doctors or other professionals with specialized training in the area. The Life Care Plan Economist projects the future costs of the life care plan that can reasonably be anticipated to be incurred based upon current projections of future changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as well as the historical relationship between categories of goods and services with overall inflation. The specific categories included are those that have been followed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for at least four (4) years. The future costs are then discounted to a present value based upon prevailing rates of interest.
The Life Care Plan Economist is designed to be used by the layman with minimal knowledge of the underlying economics. The program is controlled by Visual Basic macros that automatically perform calculations, format exhibits and generate graphs that conform to the specific circumstances of the individual. Details of its use are contained in a user’s manual and illustrated in simple training videos.
A limited-function sample spreadsheet (“Joe Sampler”) is accessible below for test purposes. The User’s Manual, Beginning and Advanced Videos, and a sample report using the Life Care Plan Economist are also available on the links below.
